found your site interesting too - I was wondering if any of the Appleby's went
as far back as the middle ages when Appleby Magna had its own Appleby's.
They were Normans who took the name de Appleby when they were given the
village and surrounding lands, and they lived at our Moat House from about
1166 until 1560. (The village name itself goes back to Viking times.)
