    Dan (never Daniel) Preston Appleby, born August 9, 1923 in Ozark, Christian County, Missouri.  The third son of Felix Jestiny Young Appleby, Jr. and Frances Myrtle List-Appleby.  The family moved to Blythe California when the sons were young.

   Having first trained through the Navy ROTC at the University of California, Dan Appleby joined the US Navy 16 May 1943.  In time, he received rank of  Commander, and served as a supply officer during World War II, Korea and Vietnam.  

   Dan married Joan Le Simard, daughter of Cyril*Thomas and Leora Simard.         

   Dan Preston Appleby died on July 4th, 1999, and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, along with his wife, Joan Simard Appleby, and their infant son, Thomas Preston Appleby.  Surviving daughters are Victoria of Germany and Lesli in the U. S.

   *Cyril Thomas Simard was an Admiral in the U. S. Navy, also.  Admiral Simard and wife, Leora Hall-Simard are buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
