Eloise Appleby Franken
1909-2002
Shawnee
(Oklahoma) resident Eloise Appleby Franken, 92, died Sunday ( 5 Feb 2002) at her home.
She was born May 29, 1909, in Springfield, Mo., to Edgar H. and Ophelia
(Ferrell) Appleby. She earned a teacher's certificate from Southwest Missouri State College and
taught kindergarten at Wilson School and Franklin School. She also taught music
and reading at St. Benedict.
She married Ed A. "Dink" Franken in June1934 in Billings, Mo. He
preceded her in death in November 1977. She was a member of the Junior Service League for more than 50 years and also
was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the Sponsa Regis and Altar
Society.
She also was preceded in death by two grandsons, J. T. Moyer in 1992 and Josh
Evans in 2001, and a granddaughter, Kathy Franken in 1964. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Andy and Larry Moyer of
Seminole and Betsy and Duane Evans of Lawrence, Kan.; a son and daughter-in-law,
Tony and Penny Franken of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandsons, Brandon Moyer, Rafe
Evans and Ken and Michael Franken; two granddaughters, Jadee Kabance and
Jennifer Duffy; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Mass of the
Christian Burial will be noon Wednesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the
Rev. Charles Massoth, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary
