Paul Appleby, 58, April 17 in Houston. Appleby was assistant pastor at First Church in Paris . An avid bicyclist, Appleby was participating in a Senior Games bicycle race when on the last lap of a training ride, his bicycle struck and locked up with another cyclist. He was thrown forward and sustained head injuries. Surgery was performed to remove a blood clot, but he did not regain consciousness. Appleby left a career as a nuclear engineer to enter the ministry in 1993. He had served the Paris congregation since 1994. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Cindy Brown and Shelly Phillips; five grandchildren; brother, Joe Appleby; and sisters, Anna Marie Cannon and Sherry Welch.
