On the First of July, Nineteen Hundred and Forty-three, David Appleby enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and was on active duty until 1946. David was commissioned as a Japanese Language Officer, 2nd Lieutenant in WW II. He was recalled during the Korean War and served in Korea as a First Lieutenant and platoon commander of a 81mm mortar platoon. David Appleby was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations ribbon. He was discharged May 25, 1952.
David, a son of David P. (Sr.) and Rosalee (Mills) Appleby, American Missionaries to Brazil. He was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, S. A., on 16th October 1925. He is married to Martha (Dobson) Appleby and they have one daughter and two granddaughters. David Appleby is a Concert Pianist, and an Author of many books on Brazilian Music.
