Notes for William Preston Appleby:

He was a Captain in the Fourth South Carolina Calvary-CSA.under his Uncle, Col. William Stokes during the Civil War.  His part  in the affair near  Lowndes' Mill, South Carolina, is documented in "The Making of America" collection at Cornell University.

 

William Preston Appleby and his brother, Peter Ridley Appleby, both married Larisey girls in a 

double wedding ceremony.  The wedding was held at Fontainblue, a mansion on the Glover Estate, 

rented by Joel Larisey.
